Collecting variations of the WWI era Iron Cross 1st Class can yield hundreds of unique specimens, as they were manufactured by that many jewelers across Germany during and following the war. This is a well-crafted example, featuring a large metal disk that would hold the cross snugly in place for the wearer. Frame and hardware is probably silver plated brass. Core shows moderate wear to the original paint, and excellent detail to the obverse design.
