Craig Gottlieb Militaria

REFERENCE ONLY. (SOLD or NOT FOR SALE)
This is an outstanding example of the 'Extra Mütze' that could be privately purchased, usually by an NCO. The cap is made of the same heavy, quality wool as the early tunics, and has held up very well. There is no mothing at all to the cap or piping. The piping is bright red for Flak Artillery, and is striking in its contrast to the Luftwaffe blue grey. The insignia is also in excellent condition, with the early, droop tailed eagle and matching winged cockade. The inside of the cap is lined with light brown/beige colored polished cotton, and has a large and impressive Clemens Wagner maker marking under the celluloid sweat shield. It's also dated July 1938. The sweatband is genuine leather, and has a tear in the front behind the visor and a tiny bit of the rear corner edge torn. If not for the minor damage to the sweatband the cap would rate as mint. As it is, it's a near mint example of the early Luftwaffe visor cap made by one of the Reich's premier hat makers.
