An elaborately decorated double barreled percussion cap side-by-side shotgun in outstanding condition. ?The piece is marked with silver inlaid lettering "De Herraduras, Por Pedro Jose Aguirra, En Eybar, aňo 1847" [(Made) of horseshoe (nails) for Pedro Jose Aguirra, in Eybar, year 1847]. High quality weapons were made in this manner for the wealthy using welded horseshoe nail iron during this period. ?I've been unable to determine the actual maker but will continue to research the piece. ?The piece is decorated with high quality engraving on virtually every surface. ?The hammers are in the form of fabulous animals. The stock is embellished with a grotesque face and various additional decorating. ?There is a compartment in the shoulder stock for ammunition. ?Rib sight with a single ball at the muzzle. ?The stock is fitted with mounts for a shoulder sling, and the barrels are easily removable.? There is a small ding in the muzzle area of one barrel as can be seen in the images, but otherwise the piece shows normal age, use, and handling. ?Lovely example of an antique hunting piece.?
