Presentation etched SA daggers are much more difficult to find than those of the military. ?There were specific regulations regarding presentation designations for the SA so the process was more involved than that of non-political organizations. Possibly for this reason, inscribed SA daggers are seldom found on the market. ?This is a superb example of an early SA dagger by the uncommon maker Spalteneder of M√ľnchen which was presented to the victor of a sporting event of 23. August 1936. ?The inscription indicates the contest was held by SA Sturmbann II/143, so the winner was most likely a member of this SA unit, which was part of SA Group Westfalen. The blade is in exceptional condition, with virtually all of its cross-grain and only minor runner marks. ?The cross guard is correctly marked Wf for Group Westfalen, and the grip shows minor pressure marks of the type that would have been caused while it was being worn by the original recipient. Nickle fittings show light use also. ?Overall a fine example of a scarce SA presentation award.?
