The Luftschutz decoration, 1st Class, is a cross you never see.  According to most resources, only about 150 were awarded, and it appears they were not produced in large numbers. This is a fire gilt tombak version, with sharp and fine detailing to the pebbling, numbers, and letters. The suspension 'bar' is correctly formed, and the piece shows all of the features you want to see. The cross comes complete with its original ribbon and sewn on pin bar. The ribbon shows some minor catches and the cross has some age and very light wear, but the ensemble is still in excellent condition! This is a decoration awarded primarily to high ranking individuals who had distinguished themselves in the Luftschutz program and it's a very difficult to find example that is missing from most collections.
