REFERENCE ONLY. (SOLD or NOT FOR SALE)

Helmet represents a late issue HKP (SE) M-42, with an outstanding example of an Army shield that is normally seen on reissue helmets.  Interior lining shows no wear, but has suffered from dryness over the years - flaking in spots.  Still, it's the original liner, and upper cord is intact and in original tie.  Liner is marked 60.  Rear interior of this helmet is stamped KO 68, beneath which is the number 4726 (as far as I can read it).  Decal is original, and of late quality, showing slight mis-registry of the printing technique. The way the decal lays on the paint conforms to accepted characteristics of originality and in my view is period applied.   That it's a late helmet, and that there is no sweat-staining on the liner, suggests to me that it was never issued. This is a mega, mint helmet (but for the dry-rot on the edges of the liner), that should satisfy the discriminating collector.  This helmet has been seen (in the form of high quality digital photo format) by helmet expert Kelly Hicks, who helped with the technical write-up of this piece, and he approves of the piece.
