Craig Gottlieb Militaria

The skull sleeveband was introduced in late 1938 for wear by officers of the SS Totenkopf Standarte 1 'Oberbayern' to replace the 'Oberbayern' title. Wear was officially ended when the unit was disbanded in 1940/41, however period photographs show the skull band being worn occasionally by members of the unit who had transferred to the SS Division 'Totenkopf'. This is a superbly hand embroidered example of the skull sleeveband in bullion. The skull has a 3 dimensional relief appearance due to the outstanding quality of the bullion work. The band is edged with the correct 7 strand aluminum stripes. The cufftitle was worn by an officer and shows use and wear, which give the piece a fantastic character that is missing with a mint band.  Used but not abused.  A choice and lovely addition to an SS combat display!
