The numbered Panzer Assault badges were introduced in 1943 and represent the number of days the awardee was in actual combat. This is the hollow style badge, and is a textbook example. The tank is attached to the wreath with 2 rivets of the solid type. The number plate is also riveted, and is the type with the fancier 5 in 50. The numbered badges were produced in Kriegsmetall (a zinc alloy) and so do not hold their factory finish well. The eagle and wreath retain perhaps 55% of the original silvering, and the black finish to the Panzer is at about the same percentage. The numbered Panzer badges are very tough to find, and the majority of those seen at larger shows are reproductions. This is a rare example of an original '50', and remains in quite fine condition. Rare and choice example of this elusive award!
