Craig Gottlieb Militaria

The reason is that Paul Muller made many letter openers after the war, but this is in no way like those examples, which are found, incidentally, in pre-war vintage as well. This particular piece was surfaced in the 1960s by noted collector and historian Barry Brown of England. He bought the piece directly from the living veteran, who had discovered it himself in a police station in the Ruhr valley, not far from Solingen. The building was bombed out, and the soldier found the opener inside the linen sleeve, on the desk of the the police president's office of the town. He took it, along with a lot of paperwork, which he turned in to military intelligence. The letter opener he kept. The piece is a very heavy piece of damascus, measuring about 10 inches long. In super high-relief on the blade are two SS runes, which are either heavily silver plated, or else highly polished steel. There are no other markings on the piece. In summary, a no-questions-asked real piece that is pictured in Wittmann's book on SS edged weapons somewhere around page 525-575.
