The day badges, or 'tinnies', for this large tournament are often found, but the officially sanctioned awards are not. This is a superb quality non portable prize complete with its original and very scarce box. The medal has obviously not been removed from its box very often, as it shows virtuallys no wear and retains its original frosted silver factory finish. The design features a finely sculpted Hanseatic 3 masted sailing ship, over which is superimposed the SA runic symbol. Behind the ship is a large castle with a swastika uppermost. Around the edge are the words 'Wettkampftage 1939 SA-Gruppe Hansa' and 'Hamburg 14.-18. Juni', meaning 'Competition Days 1939 SA Group Hansa'. The reverse is plain, and apparently the winner of this medal never had his name engraved on it. The medal is still housed in its original box, which is covered with an op-art designed paper and the wording 'SA Gruppe Hansa/Wettkämpfe 1939/Siegerpreis' (SA Group Hansa/Tournaments 1939/Victor's Prize'. The inside of the base is lined with rich blue velvet (the group color of Group Hansa) with a recessed area in which the award rests. The box shows minor handling and age, but overall the ensemble is in excellent, near mint condition. A scarce and desirable set that would be at home along side a 'Ha' marked SA dagger!
