The reason these disks are so rare is because when Himmler unified the police services under his jurisdiction, he ordered these disks melted down in 1937 and replaced by the 3 types of "second generation" police disks (Local and State criminal disks, and Gestapo Disks). This disk was used by detective officer number 9 for the police district of Launenburg Elbe. It shows slight wear, but has survived beautifully conditioned, and is complete with a chain attached to it. There is a very high-end reproduction disk that was circulated many years ago. This disk burned many European dealers and collectors until it was identified and published by Don Bible. Exposed in many public venues, it is now fairly easy to tell the difference if you know what to look for. This is one of the good ones, and is one of the rarest "significant" Third Reich historical artifacts from the Third Reich era that one could hope to own. I have owned over 30 Kripo disks, many Gestapo disks, and a few Local police disks, but this is my first Prussian Police disk that I have had the opportunity to own. If a list ever surfaces of the identities of the officers who owned each disk, imagine what that will do to the price!
