Artist (Photographer): Howard Libermann, 1943. In spite of overt racial discrimination and segregation in the military and in civilian life during the war, the overwhelming majority of black Americans participated in the fight against the Axis Powers. To inspire this sense of patriotism, the US Government presented an idealized view of race relations in America. Accordingly, racial tensions faded in portrayals of black Americans as full and equal partners in American victory. This Office of War Information poster shows factory workers at an integrated aircraft plant during the war. Measures 22 x 28 inches.
