This specimen was purchased by me in Kassel. When found, it was void of insignia (as many hats are, which remained in Germany after the war). I chose a beautiful set of M152s that have a matching patina, which I purchased as a set earlier last year for just such an occasion. Both the skull and the eagle wnet right into the original holes with no issues. The hat is very large, and shows almost no wear. This is not a conversion from an officer visor, but is an actual factory-made crusher, which would have been worn by an officer. It is possible an NCO would wear this, but period photos usually depict an officer wearing this type of visor. NCOs generally wore the cloth-billed version. Again, not a hard and fast rule, but certainly a trend. This hat is SO much rarer than a standard officer visor, and yet it is only fractionally more expensive.
